Happy Republic Day!!
The public of the republic was busy greeting each other through the day as the young nation celebrated its 62nd republic day. But was it really a ‘happy’ republic day. I mean yes we showcased our military might, the Tejas and the Brahmos , our Unity in Diversity which we are so very proud of, the giant economic strides taking us to becoming a superpower and what not to the world. We seem to have every reason to be happy about it.
However, can all of this combined mask what marked (or marred) the eve of this republic day. Whilst we were being slapped by scam after scam at the highest levels and being made to realize (as if we were unaware of it earlier) how deep we are stuck in the quagmire of corruption; an honest government official, rarer than the rarest of species in our country, who tried to object to one of such innumerable instances was set ablaze in broad daylight. In another instance, the Government in its bid to uphold the sentiments of those who even refuse to be called as the citizens of this country denied the others the right to unfurl the tricolor at what we till date were considering to be an integral part of India. I now wonder if we should even call it Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Nevertheless, Happy Republic Day!!!
